9-YSTC-1 The Visual System Investigator

The Visual System Investigator offers the ultimate in flexibility for visual systems studies of cats and monkeys. The experimental Animal’s eyes are allowed an unobstructed view to nearly 90 degrees from central vision, while maintaining the ability to move in stereotaxic coordinates. This is accomplished by reversing the position of the animal in the carrier. Instead of a conventional straight piece connecting the side rails into a “U” shape, a generous curve allows greater room to accommodate larger experimental animals. The palate and eye clamps are mounted to a slot rail, which allows the clamps to be slid in from the side with minimal invasion of the visual field. A pair of specially machined “L” shaped ear bars allows a single investigator to easily secure the animal to the frame. The frame tilts forward to normalize visual receptive fields, and is made of anodized aluminum – compatible with applications requiring non-ferrous metals. The side rails can be used with currently manufactured manipulators, which can be slid in from the front or back of the frame. Talk with a Crist Instrument Company sales person about your application and how the VSI can be tailored to suit your needs.
